Cornerstone is a multi-year strategic initiative to modernize, unify, and simplify our finance, human resources and payroll, procurement, student information, and expense management systems and processes. This newsletter provides updates on the projects within the Cornerstone portfolio.

Cornerstone Open Forum

Next Cornerstone Open Forum Scheduled for Thursday, September 26 — All members of the Rutgers community are invited to attend the next live, virtual Cornerstone Forum on September 26 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants will hear project updates and have a chance to ask questions and share feedback with the project teams. Keep an eye out for another email from cornerstone@finance.rutgers.edu with the agenda and meeting link.

Human Resource/Payroll Transformation

Launch Date Rescheduled to July 1, 2025 — The HR/P Transformation Initiative team identified several items that require additional design, configuration, and testing before the change from PeopleSoft to Oracle HCM can be completed. Therefore, university leadership has approved a one-time extension in the project “go-live date,” originally slated for January 2025. Read the full story to find out more.

Travel and Expense

Post Launch, the Focus Shifts to Education — Since the July launch of the new Concur Travel and Expense system, members of the university community have collectively completed nearly 4,700 expense reports and managed more than 2,200 trips in the system. There are still opportunities to learn about the system through available resources and virtual drop-in office hours. Student Experience Improvement Initiative (SEII)

Finding the Right Approach for Business Process Review — The SEII team is planning for the Student Information System business process review, which will begin in early 2025. In preparation for this work, the team is examining—through a series of “deep-dive” meetings—options for how to approach the work. To find out more, read the full story here.

Scarlet Journey

Initiative Rolls on as Summer Wanes — The Scarlet Journey project team has been busy this summer, including making enhancements to several systems that are critical to enrollment and student support functions across the university. Read the full story.  

Chart of Accounts (COA) Phase 2

Fund Type 100 Balance Transfers and Data Collection Complete — After transitioning more than three hundred Fund Type (FT) 100 unrestricted operating fund projects to general ledger (GL)-only accounting in July, the COA2 initiative team now has completed related balance transfers from individual FT100 projects. The team also worked with partners across the university to update payroll costing department default GL codes and HR department hierarchy information. Learn more by reading the full story.
