Update on Cornerstone Implementation

Dear Rutgers Colleagues,

As we prepare for fiscal year 2017 year-end close activities, we would like to thank you for working with the Cornerstone project team to identify issues, test solutions, and manage day-to-day operations in this new environment. Your patience, partnership, and commitment have contributed significantly to our efforts to stabilize the financial management system.

We continue to experience complexities that make using the system and associated processes difficult to navigate. Although we have made significant progress, there are millions of transactions coursing through the system, and we are working diligently to correct issues as they are identified. As you know, this is important work that will take time – for central administration functions and units – to complete. We will continue to work hand-in-hand with user groups to resolve issues, and with Oracle to stabilize the system.

The attached slides outline our ongoing efforts to stabilize the financial management system and correct data in the general ledger and Projects sub-ledger. We have listed steps that the University Controller’s Office, and Grant and Contract Accounting (GCA) are taking to resolve these open items, as well as steps you can take to manage your accounts during this period.

Additionally, the financial management system did not come packaged with reports completely tailored for higher education institutions. Since building reports for the initial October 2016 launch, we have developed and will continue to develop queries to help you access data from the system to manage your accounts. Some of these reports can be cumbersome and are not adequate for faculty and staff to operate effectively. We are adding details to existing queries, building more custom reports, and working with Oracle to provide reports and screens with better information for administrators and faculty.  Many of these reports are being tested presently by central units and end-users, and will be available as soon as testing is satisfactorily complete.

We also are taking measures to improve the response and resolution times for our help desks. Updated help desk and support contact information has been posted on the Cornerstone website. Please refer to that updated information when submitting a request for support with the systems and processes.
